Yonghyun "Ethan" Kim
Voice

Mr. Ethan Kim, a South Korean baritone, is a DMA student at the University of North Texas, studying under Dr. Stephen Morscheck. His previous roles include Marcello (La Bohème), Don Giovanni (Don Giovanni), Don Alfonso (Così fan tutte), Peter (Hänsel und Gretel), Escamillo (Carmen), Il Conte di Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Dr. Falke (Die Fledermaus), and “Pa” Zegner (Proving Up). He also recently performed as Marcello in a concert version of La Bohème with the Sherman Symphony Orchestra.

His upcoming performances include the title role in Rachmaninoff’s Aleko with UNT Opera and Escamillo in Carmen with the Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra. Kim earned his Bachelor of Music from Seoul National University and his Master of Music from the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with James Morris. He also trained at the Accademia AMO of the Teatro Coccia di Novara in Italy, where he made his Italian opera debut. In 2021, he made his operatic debut in Korea at the Sejong Grand Theater.

He has won several competitions, including the UNT Concerto Competition (2022), Barry Alexander International Vocal Competition (2023), and AIMS Vocal Competition (2024). He participated in the Aspen Music Festival as a fellowship singer on a full scholarship and recently attended the American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS) program, also on a full scholarship. During AIMS, he performed as Scarpia (Tosca) in the Puccini Concert at Musikverein and as Valentin (Faust) in the Meistersinger Concert at Helmut-List-Halle in Graz, Austria.

Mr. Kim currently serves as a voice faculty member at Prime Music Institute.
