Mr. Camilo Vasquez
Cello & Piano

Camilo Vasquez is a cellist, pianist, and educator based in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Cello Performance from the University of North Texas, where he studied with distinguished cello professors Horacio Contreras and Nikola “Nino” Ružević. He has also expanded his artistry internationally, studying jazz and improvisation on cello with Barcelona-based cellist and improviser Jon Cottle, as well as jazz piano with renowned pianist Gilles Estoppey during a semester in Barcelona.

As a performer, Camilo is experienced in classical, jazz, contemporary, and commercial styles. He has performed as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral musician, jazz string player, and recording artist. He was awarded first prize in both the Jackie McGehee Young Artists Competition and the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Concerto Competition, and made his professional orchestra solo debut at age 19 with the New Mexico Philharmonic, performing Elgar’s Cello Concerto. Camilo also attended the Sphinx Performance Academy on full scholarship for two years, further developing his skills among some of the nation’s most talented young classical musicians. His recent performance work also includes recording strings for a newly released Mariah Carey track available on all major streaming platforms.

In addition to his classical training, Camilo has a strong background in jazz and modern styles. At UNT, he participated in the university’s Jazz String Lab, developing skills in improvisation, stylistic versatility, and contemporary string performance. His experience across genres allows him to help students build a strong technical foundation while also encouraging musical creativity, expression, and confidence.

Camilo’s teaching is centered around each student’s individual goals, abilities, and learning style. He believes that healthy, relaxed technique is essential for long-term success, and he emphasizes efficient playing habits that help students progress with ease, avoid unnecessary tension, and develop a beautiful, natural sound. Whether working with young beginners, advanced students, adult learners, or students preparing for auditions and performances, Camilo strives to create lessons that are structured, encouraging, and inspiring

Mr. Camilo currently serves as a Cello & Piano Instructor at Prime Music Institute.
