Katie Lopez
Early Childhood Music

Katie began her musical journey at four years old learning cello through the Suzuki program in Waco, TX. Katie continued her cello studies through college as her primary instrument. Throughout her childhood, she picked up piano and guitar through private lessons and casual functional self-studying. She felt called to pursue a career in music outside of performance and teaching and discovered the field of music therapy.

Katie obtained her undergraduate and master’s degree in music therapy at Texas Woman’s university. During her studies, Katie performed regularly as a professional cellist in music theatre, wedding soloist, accompanist for choir, and small ensembles. While receiving practicum hours practicing music therapy as a student with many different populations, she discovered a deep love working with children and adults particularly with special needs. Katie did her music therapy internship for six months at Sound Starts music working with children with autism, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other developmental delays.

In her professional career as a music therapist, Katie has worked with children and adults in their home doing one-on-one music therapy and adapted lessons as well as leading early childhood music classes to encourage child development with their natural language: music and movement! Katie has a passion for creating an inclusive environment where every child is celebrated for who they are and incorporating their individual musical voices to create affirming and uplifting music experiences.

Katie currently serves as a Music Together® teacher at Prime Music Institute.
