Ting-Wei Chang has appeared as a soloist and chamber artist in Asia and the United States. Originally from Taiwan, currently a doctoral candidate (ABD) at the University of North Texas under the guidance of Dr. Kimberly Cole Luevano. Chang began playing the clarinet at the age of 10 and won the first prize in the Taiwan Music Competition at the age of 14. As a soloist, she performed Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto with the University of Akron Symphonic Orchestra as a winner of the Concerto Competition and Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No. 2 with the Ankeng Alumni Wind Ensemble in Taiwan. She have also won and attended numerous competitions while studying in the United States, including the first prize of the Tuesday Musical Competition, first prize of the James Tannenbaum Memorial Mozart Competition, winner of the University of Akron Concerto Competition, Semi-Finals of the International Clarinet Association (ICA) Young Artist Competition, and Semi-Finals of the Young Texas Artist Music Competition.
As a chamber artist, Chang has participated in different orchestras and ensembles in Taiwan and the United States, including the Taiwan Pro Arte Orchestra, Taipei Century Symphony Orchestra, UA Symphonic Orchestra, UA Symphonic Band, UA New Music Ensemble, UNT Concert Orchestra, UNT Wind Symphony, and Dallas Asian Wind Ensemble. She also performed with numerous chamber groups, including the Lunars woodwind quintet, Prokofiev Quintet, Soochow Clarinet Quartet, Soochow Woodwind Quintet, and Trio with Double Bass, and performed the world premiere of Trio by Stephen Danker.
Chang obtained a Bachelor of Music degree in Clarinet Performance from Soochow University in Taiwan under the guidance of Professor Pei-Yun Lin, and a Master of Music degree in Clarinet Performance from the University of Akron with Dr. Kristina Belisle Jones, where they held Graduate Assistant positions.
Chang currently serves as a clarinet faculty member at Prime Music Institute.
